McKinney plan would let reforestation funds pay for studies, mapping and outreach

Under the proposed update, McKinney's reforestation fund could pay for urban-forest studies, heat-island mapping and citywide outreach to target canopy improvements rather than only buying and planting trees. Mr. Worthy said the change would allow the city to better understand its existing canopy and pursue public'private initiatives to expand tree coverage on private parcels.
"This would allow us to do some more research to actually tell what we have out there," Mr. Worthy said, describing plans for studies and mapping. The change would also enable outreach and partnerships to increase canopy across privately owned residential lots.
