Police chief cites staffing needs as neighboring cities leave dispatch center

Police Chief Theron Fielding updated the council that one new police truck has been completed and a second is being prepared. He said Officer Prange is "about two weeks away from completing phase 2 of his training," and that the department is processing a background check for a fifth officer. Chief Fielding indicated the department is considering adding a sixth officer in the next fiscal year, which would require truth-in-taxation procedures.
Chief Fielding and Mayor Travis Mote also discussed changes in regional dispatch after Perry, Tremonton, and Brigham City withdrew from the county dispatch center; Fielding said those departures create communication and backup challenges for local response and strengthen the argument for an additional officer on duty for safety and interoperability.
