Anthony Zarrella was elected president of the Fitchburg City Council on Jan. 5, 2026, following a roll call vote of 10 in favor and 0 opposed. Shortly after his election, Zarrella assumed the chair for the remainder of the organizational meeting.
City Clerk Joanna Bilotta-Simeone administered the Oath of Office to the 2026 elected officials at the start of the session, including Mayor Squailia, members of the City Council and members of the School Committee. Councilor Derrick J. Cruz was elected vice president by the same roll call tally of 10-0. The council recorded Councilor Cragin as absent for the session.
