Police chief reports 452 November calls, Axon cameras to be installed Dec. 9

Police Chief Eric Hansell updated the board on staffing and equipment needs at the Dec. 5 meeting, reporting the department handled 452 calls in November and that Officer Mahan will graduate from the police academy Dec. 6 and begin patrol shifts Dec. 8 with 12 weeks of field training.
Chief Hansell told trustees, "the Axon system will be installed on December 9, 2024." He also said he expects a resignation from Officer Brandon, who "accepted a position closer to her hometown." Hansell explained the department will turn in military M16 weapons because the department does not have a use for them and they represent a liability; the department retains AR-15 single-fire weapons for operational needs.
Hansell also reported that Billy Lieb removed and will replace the interrogation-room glass as previously approved by the board. He framed the equipment and staffing moves as routine department maintenance and liability reduction.
