South Jacksonville adopts ordinance regulating public camping

The Village of South Jacksonville Board of Trustees voted Dec. 5 to adopt an ordinance regulating public camping within the village limits.
Acting Village Clerk and Treasurer Mindy Olson told trustees the ordinance had been reviewed by the village attorney and Police Chief Eric Hansell and that unnecessary wording at the start had been removed. "This has been reviewed by the Attorney and Chief Hansell," Olson said. Trustee Tom Jordan moved adoption and Trustee Steve Retzer seconded; the ordinance passed on a roll-call vote.
Trustees and staff said the ordinance is intended to provide a clear regulatory framework and can be updated in the future if enforcement or wording problems arise. The board did not attach additional amendments at the December meeting.
