During public participation the board heard from Carla Anastasio, a parent and registered dietitian, who urged the board to consider forming a long-term budget-planning committee and to re-examine school-food options. "Maybe we can come up with a committee or something to sort of look at long term planning, and just kind of wondering if that's something that can be considered or put on the table for discussion," Anastasio said.
Anastasio also suggested the district consider outside, no-cost school-food programs and volunteer resources she has worked with in the past. The superintendent responded that the district does have a Food and Nutrition Committee that includes elementary principals, the athletic coordinator and the nutrition supervisor and invited Anastasio to share contacts for further support.
