Board gives first readings to Title IX, harassment, nondiscrimination and bullying policy updates

The board's policy committee summarized several first readings intended to clarify the district's complaint and investigatory procedures. Robert Nosek described why Title IX is being extracted from the district's previous harassment policy: "it was important that we have our own stand alone title 9 policy because it it is more of a narrower legal definition and requires a more formal investigation process," he said.
Policy committee members described multiple, related changes: a condensed harassment policy that explicitly sets out the investigation process and points of contact; recommended amendments to the complaint form so the new version can be posted to the human-resources web page at second reading; a recommendation that nondiscrimination and equal-opportunity policies be reviewed every three to five years; and an expanded prohibition-against-bullying policy that includes off-campus and online conduct and details DASA reporting and response steps.
Board members were told the e-bike and e-scooter language was crafted with high-school administration to align policy with current procedures for students who drive to campus. The policy committee asked that the revised complaint form be attached at the time of the second reading so both Title IX and harassment policies will include the updated form.
