Auditor Mike Rosenbaum said the county’s receipts were reduced this month by $301,000 because of a fuel tax abatement enacted by Governor Braun. "We received $301,000 less this month," Rosenbaum said, and he added that the State has promised to reimburse the county once it shifts funds; he said a State meeting next Tuesday will determine where the money will be pulled from and that reimbursement should arrive by the end of the month.
Rosenbaum warned that the timing and amount of any ongoing monthly reimbursements are unclear and said the Highway Department will watch spending as receipts are monitored. No immediate budget cuts were ordered at the meeting; Rosenbaum said formal budget hearings will begin on Monday.
