Neighbors urge strict stormwater controls for proposed Pussies Pond parking lot

Patrice Dalton, an East Hampton town trustee and long-time Springs resident, returned to the podium to press concerns about a proposed parking lot near Pussies Pond. Dalton said prior remediation and investments around the pond — including core logs, replanting and a permeable reactive barrier near the Springs general store — make the proposed lot's proximity to the pond especially concerning because it lies upgradient of the water body.
"What I would like to ask you is specifically stormwater management measures that are planned for that site," Dalton said, asking how runoff will be captured, treated and monitored during and after construction and how maintenance of capture systems will be guaranteed. Jackie Esposito and other commenters raised the chemical 6PPD (from tire wear) as a possible contaminant of concern in runoff from parking lots and urged the board to evaluate alternatives to siting the lot so close to the pond.
Residents asked for modeling, monitoring plans and enforceable maintenance obligations. Several offered to collaborate with town staff on design and alternatives.
