Dr. Rachel Valenzuela, superintendent of the Mark West Union School District, told trustees the district’s early‑education enrollment picture is strong as staff return from winter break. "Current TK/Kindergarten Enrollment for the 2025/2026 school year: TK - 86 completed enrollments w/ 15 incomplete enrollments still pending," she said, and added that overall numbers have increased slightly since last year.
The superintendent said online enrollment for new students entering grades 1–6 will open Feb. 11, 2025, a date trustees will use for outreach and registration planning. District principals provided site reports with local details: Emily Todd, principal at John B. Riebli Elementary, said assessment growth was visible at her site and reported that "Kindergarten increased from 42 to 60," and Mark West Charter reported a lottery this week with 21 applicants for 20 available spaces and 15 on the waiting list.
Trustees did not take additional enrollment action during the meeting; district staff said they will continue outreach and provide data reviews for board members who request them.
