Miami County recognizes National WIC Breastfeeding Week; county health department cited for gold-level support

Miami County commissioners proclaimed National WIC Breastfeeding Week and the county health department accepted the recognition at the Aug. 5 meeting.
"I just wanna take a moment and thank the chairman and commissioners for recognizing national, WIC breastfeeding week and for your continued support for the Miami County Health Department and our WIC program," Mackenzie Kelly, assistant health director, told the board. Kelly introduced WIC staff and thanked the Miami County Breastfeeding Coalition for its partnership.
Kelly told commissioners the Miami County Health Department was recognized in September 2025 by the state of Kansas as a breastfeeding-friendly local health department and that the department earned a gold-level breastfeeding employee support award. She said those recognitions reflect the department's commitment to serving families and supporting employees who choose to breastfeed.
Commissioners posed for photos following the proclamation. No policy or funding action related to WIC was taken at the meeting.
