Residents raise climate-control, playground, staffing and budget questions during public comment

Several community members used the meeting’s public-comment period to press the board on facilities, staffing and budget questions. Kyle Montague asked whether climate control was considered in the building condition survey and whether a STEAM teacher position would be restored; Dr. Pacatte responded that STEAM and library services are combined in one position and that "yes, climate control is a consideration," referencing new state legislation. Residents also questioned whether the elementary- and middle-school roofs need replacement and whether the ES playground is consistent with stakeholder plans; the construction team and district clarified that project-specific plans were created after the referendum with stakeholder input and that the project must be managed to the approved budget.

Other commenters including Jim Harrington pressed the board on teacher raises, reserve levels and the prevalence of change orders; the building team noted that change orders can arise for reasons such as the discovery of asbestos. Jeff Schweitzer asked explicitly whether the capital project remains on budget; the design team responded that the project is required to be on budget. Board and staff representatives said they will provide additional communications and compile reserve-plan information before the next budget vote.
