Policy manual committee work and regionalization guidance discussed

Superintendent Ryan Pacatte and the Policy Manual Committee updated the board on forthcoming policy reviews (Safety; Buildings & Grounds) and noted that State Education Department regionalization participation is advisory and optional with a Jan. 15 opt-out date.
District administration reported on the Policy Manual Committee’s work and on state-level regionalization guidance. Dr. Pacatte and District Clerk Jen VanRy said the committee will meet Dec. 18 to continue work on Safety and Buildings & Grounds policies; Board member Jim Colt will serve as the board representative on the committee and the group is seeking legal and expert input.
On regionalization, Dr. Pacatte told the board that after conversations among area superintendents the State Education Department (SED) has left participation optional and advisory; districts have full control over any plans they develop and have a Jan. 15 date to opt out of regionalization conversations if they choose. Avon already participates in regional programs such as merged athletics and BOCES services and will continue to consider partnerships that provide clear benefits.
