Board hears capital-project design, phases and new MS and ES spaces

Campus Construction representatives and the project architects briefed the Avon Central School District Board on the phased scope of the district’s capital project, explaining what work will be completed in each phase.

The construction team described Phase 1 at the high school as focusing on repairs to the library roof and updates to the high-school counseling offices, plus a new high-school entry with an outdoor canopy and gathering spaces. "spaces designed to feel safe and welcoming and promote student wellness," the presentation noted. Phase 2 at the high school includes renovations to the connector hallway and new art rooms with shared resources. At the middle school, the team outlined ongoing work to relocate pupil services and the district office to create a new middle-school lobby atrium with flex and group work space; new locker rooms and team rooms and refreshed hallways are also planned. In the elementary school, Phase 1 includes new hallway tiling and lighting and a playground for younger students, while Phase 2 calls for an ES library renovation, an adjacent STEAM/maker space and a renovated bus entrance with updated branding and finishes.

Board members had the opportunity to ask clarifying questions during and after the presentation. The construction and design representatives said the project will be managed to the approved budget and that specific plans were developed after the referendum with stakeholder input. The board will receive additional progress updates as design and construction proceed.
