She said "This is about $60,000,000 that will be taken away from cities and counties across Illinois," and argued those dollars fund police, fire protection, road repairs and basic services.
Sanalitro warned that when LGDF funding is reduced, local leaders have three blunt choices: raise property taxes, increase fees or cut services — none of which she said benefit working families or small businesses. She urged the governor to "fully fund the LGDF" so municipalities retain resources and communities avoid tax increases. The remarks took place at the start of a session in which several House Republicans outlined broader property-tax relief proposals.
