DOJ announces charges in Minnesota Medicaid fraud that seized more than $90 million

Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald of the Department of Justice’s National Fraud Enforcement Division announced criminal charges against 15 defendants in Minnesota, saying the cases involve schemes that targeted more than $90,000,000 in taxpayer dollars. McDonald opened the press event by identifying himself and saying the indictments mark “the beginning” of a broader enforcement effort in the state.
"We are announcing criminal charges. Against 15 defendants in Minnesota. For fraud schemes that targeted over 90,000,000. In taxpayer dollars," McDonald said. He said the alleged schemes touched seven different state-managed Medicaid programs and that the department will continue investigations and prosecutions in Minnesota.
McDonald said the charges include the highest loss amount ever charged in a Medicaid case in Minnesota and the largest autism fraud scheme ever charged by DOJ. He also described coordination with federal partners and recent DOJ enforcement actions nationwide as context for the Minnesota prosecutions. The department urged members of the public to report suspected fraud and said it will seek to recover stolen funds.
