The Newport Historic District Commission on April 8 approved a series of applications and took several continuances to allow for additional design review. Commissioners approved material specifications for 46 Everett Street’s side deck with a required border detail, approved a north-stair relocation at 73 Catherine Street, and continued larger porch and balustrade proposals for more drawings and on-site review.
Chair (speaker 1) opened the meeting and led a sequence of motions and voice votes. The commission dismissed the unattended application for 10 Ridge Road without prejudice and continued applications for 18 Barney/Varney Street and the second-story porch at 73 Catherine Street to the May 13 meeting. “We will continue the application to get some more information” was the commission’s direction to homeowners lacking documentation, according to the record. The meeting concluded after adoption of updated guidance on windows, doors and skylights, which staff will post to the commission’s website.
