Downtown business owner urges stricter enforcement as owners report open drug use, people sleeping on sidewalks

"I'm asking that council consistently enforce the ordinance already on the books, hold everyone accountable, and stand with business owners who continue to invest in this community," Wilson said, urging the council to take stronger, consistent action to address people occupying sidewalks, open drug use and soiled public spaces.
Wilson said the problem is about public safety and public health, not merely appearance, and implored the council to hold property owners and service providers to account so downtown can remain attractive to shoppers and new businesses. Council members acknowledged the complexity of homelessness and the concentration of service providers in a small area downtown and discussed possible enforcement and partner‑based approaches; staff said the police chief had followed up with the business owner.
