Committee backs sending Family Court Social Worker job description for classification

Carly Bailey, Director of Youth Services, asked the committee to approve sending the Family Court Social Worker job description to an external classifier so the county can convert the current contractual role into a county employee. Bailey said the department would reallocate funding from an existing Program Facilitator position to support the change and described the social worker role as "a huge value to the department."
"The Social Worker position has become a huge value to the department," Bailey said, noting responsibilities such as in-home interventions, group programming and use of the MAISY-2 mental health assessment for incoming juveniles. The committee approved a motion to recommend the position description for classification and grading by Mr. Mark Nottley (motion moved by Eric Gustad, seconded by Shayne Machen; Ayes: All; Motion Carried).
The job description (Appendix B) lists minimum qualifications including a bachelor's degree in social work or related field and one year of experience working with delinquent youth or related systems, and it outlines duties from conducting family meetings and experiential learning activities to maintaining case records and assisting with grant opportunities. The committee's action was a recommendation to the full Board; final hiring or conversion decisions remain subject to Board approval and budget processes.
