City staff and the mayor previewed an ordinance to amend Chapter 61 of the city code governing alcoholic beverages at special events, proposing to remove a sunset clause so secured beer or wine gardens can be authorized in perpetuity for qualifying events.
"This is a law that was put in place to allow people associated with special events to have a secured beer or wine garden," Mayor Safford said, noting the rule includes a tie to a nonprofit so there is a public benefit. He told the council the provision "has been utilized a couple times without problem" and the change would eliminate the current sunset clause. The ordinance will be opened for public hearing the next evening and then voted at the subsequent meeting.
