Board approves multiple service contracts including NWEA MAPs assessment and virtual-learning provider

At its June 11 meeting the Waterloo Board approved a set of consent contracts presented by the superintendent, covering alternative-education services, a Head Start preschool lease and several assessment and virtual-learning contracts. The superintendent explained that the educational-alternatives contract covers services such as transportation and therapy and that the Jefferson Educational Service Center will continue to provide virtual-learning options for credit recovery and discipline-related needs.
On assessments, the superintendent said staff recommended moving from the STAR readiness assessment to NWEA MAPs to provide “much more, parent friendly reports” and more accurate and stable data for staff use. The board moved, seconded and approved the consent items by roll call.
Board members asked procedural questions about costs and implementation timelines and the superintendent said more pricing details would be provided when available.
