During public comment on the district’s proposed reductions, residents pressed the board and administration for clearer, position-by-position analysis and warned that reduced hours would harm employees’ household incomes and access to benefits.
Melissa Carly Singh, who attended both community input meetings, said the priority list “did not seem or come across that there was a full analysis of the positions with job descriptions present” and asked whether supervisors and staff had been interviewed to understand operational impacts. Another commenter described how a proposed cut would make her work financially unsustainable and urged trustees to account for childcare and scheduling consequences.
Board members responded that the process had included public meetings and staff input and that the plan remained open to modifications. Trustees asked administration for more granular impact assessments and implementation plans; several members emphasized the trade-offs between reducing hours and eliminating whole positions, noting the costs of losing institutional knowledge and the expense of recruiting and training replacements.
