Town committee outlines free curbside composting pilot and workshop

Barb Reese, speaking for the Waste Management Advisory Committee, told the board the town was awarded a municipal food-scraps recycling grant that funds free curbside composting service for Seneca Falls residents through September 2025. Participants will receive a 3-gallon covered container and weekly Friday pickup to transport food waste to a vermicomposting facility in Geneva.
Reese said residents can sign up via a Google form on the town website and that the committee will host a composting workshop on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Seneca Falls Rec Center to demonstrate backyard composting and the curbside program. "It's a free program," Reese said, and the committee is encouraging residents to sign up to reduce landfill waste. The board and attendees discussed potential drop-off bins at the landfill and confirmed the committee will raise that idea at its next meeting in January.
