Planning Board presses hospital on parking numbers after internal study

Frank Marshall, a hospital staff member, described an internal occupancy study done in March'April and said it "averaged out around, 200 parking spots," which the applicants used to justify the proposed 200-space allocation for the new 60,000-square-foot building. Marshall acknowledged the counts were imperfect and said there were times with as few as roughly 170 spare spots.
Several planning board members and neighborhood speakers challenged the applicability of those counts. Alice Smith, a Woodland Court resident, told the board she counted roughly 50 available spaces on a weekday at 10 a.m. and urged the board to require "at least 300 parking places." The board asked the applicant to (a) clarify methodology, (b) show where the 75% of required spaces to be kept within Zone B would be located, and (c) define what "efficiency" measures the applicant would use before any site-plan approval.
