Santee outlines plan to bill managed care plans for school‑based mental‑health services

He said Santee has received approximately $2.7 million in SBHIP funding to expand staffing and billing capacity.
Olander reported that "many students in need of mental health services never receive the support they need, mental health service providers are overburdened with referrals," and that the SBHIP will allow billing Managed Care Plans to fund services with the intent of not encroaching on the general fund. He told the Board 23 students across the district are currently participating in weekly sessions and that the district had just received the fee schedule.
Olander's next‑step timeline includes February training for counselors on billing and the start of billing MCPs; February–May monitoring of billing practices to determine whether recouped funds can sustain or expand positions; and a May report to the Board with staffing recommendations for 2025‑26. The Board expressed appreciation for the presentation.
