The Bangor Cultural Commission heard that its grants budget has been doubled for the coming season, a change staff said stems from a recent tax-increment financing (TIF) adjustment that freed city funds for arts grants. The chair said the increase opens the possibility of fully funding more applicants and asked the grants committee to consider whether to change award sizes or eligibility before the fall cycle.
"I am very, very excited that our grants budget has been doubled for this next season next year," the chair said, thanking staff for years of advocacy. Commissioners praised staff work and asked the grants committee to convene within weeks to draft any proposed application changes so that updated amounts can be publicized ahead of the September meeting.
