Byron-Bergen Central School District officials presented a proposed $27,899,975 budget for the 2025–26 school year that includes a proposed tax levy of $9,572,240, a 1.99% increase from the prior year. The budget presentation included a planned $100,000 transfer to the Capital Fund for a capital outlay project to repoint and seal exterior brick and to change the gymnasium roof soffit to prevent water intrusion.
Business Administrator L. Prinz told the board that "New York State has not passed their 2025-2026 budget yet," and that local planning must continue while state-level decisions remain pending. Proposition #2, included in the proposed budget, would fund two 70-passenger buses and one 7-passenger minivan for a combined cost not to exceed $389,000. The district scheduled a budget hearing for May 8, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Jr./Sr. High Auditorium and set the budget vote for May 20, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Sr. High Gymnasium.
The board did not take a final vote on the budget at the April 3 meeting; the hearing and the May 20 vote will determine approval. The district also noted three open board seats as of July 1, 2025 and said related election materials will accompany the budget process.
