Santee Board honors Member Elana Levens-Craig for 12 years of service

The Santee School District Board of Education formally recognized Member Elana Levens-Craig at its Dec. 3, 2024, regular meeting, presenting a proclamation, a governance retirement bell and Project YALE handprint artwork that included her grandchildren’s handprints.
"Tonight, we are honoring a remarkable individual whose leadership and service has left an indelible mark on our community," President Dustin Burns said as he introduced the tribute and described Levens-Craig’s classroom roots and leadership. The board laid out Levens-Craig’s 12 years of service, noting she served twice as board president and remained active at school events across the district.
The presentation included remarks from community leaders (including a proclamation from Councilmember Rob McNelis on behalf of the City of Santee), a performance by PRIDE Academy’s Peanut Butter Jam, and short tributes from the Santee Teachers Association and district leadership. Gifts presented to Levens-Craig included the bell and artwork featuring handprints from current Cajon Park students in her family.
Levens-Craig thanked attendees for joining her celebration. The board recessed briefly to honor her during the meeting before proceeding with the agenda.
