County Attorney Morgan Smith briefed the Commission on a post‑session statutory change that requires Urban Renewal Agencies to have a minimum of five members and for a member to be appointed by the local school district. Smith said Deer Lodge County’s ordinance already contemplates a five‑member URA and that the board is currently in compliance, but she recommended considering a future ordinance clean-up to better mirror state statute language.
The URA asked the school district to designate a member to satisfy the new statutory requirement; the Commission discussed whether to update the ordinance, but took no formal vote. Smith said the URA can comply under the existing ordinance but that an ordinance amendment could be requested later if desired.
