Nxt Gen Entertainment applied for a special-event permit to stage boxing matches at A's Stadium on July 4, 2026. CEO Bill Everett told the Commission he is concerned the event’s $1,000,000 liability requirement may be too low for boxing, particularly if the event includes nontraditional conduct; he said he is aware of similar venues that were closed in other jurisdictions.
County Attorney Morgan Smith said the permit was submitted without the certificate of insurance and that approval should be conditioned on receipt and review of coverage. She offered to consult the county insurer (MMIA) about whether higher limits or additional endorsements are appropriate for boxing and to verify liquor-service training and vendor coverage when alcohol is involved. Commissioner Ed Beaudette also raised traffic‑flow concerns for a July 4 event. The Commission directed staff to request fuller event details and to invite the organizer to the next meeting.
