The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Commission adopted Resolution 26-15 defining the 2026 right-of-way construction season and materials requirements, including a new specification that excavations disturbing more than one cubic yard must be backfilled with flowable fill prior to paving.
Planning Director Carl Hamming said the requirement was modeled on Montana Department of Transportation specifications and is intended to avoid tripping hazards and undesirable driving surfaces. Commissioner Ed Beaudette asked whether patching delays that had occurred in prior years had been corrected; Hamming said availability of paving crews can still cause delays but the specification aims to reduce long-term issues. The resolution passed 5-0.
