McFarland council acknowledges Waste Management rate adjustment; city impact about $33,007 annually

City Manager Diego Villanontes presented a routine franchise adjustment from Waste Management and asked the council to approve Resolution 2026‑53 on May 13.
Villanontes said the franchise agreement allows CPI‑based annual service rate adjustments and described a 2.52% increase in contract hauling rates and a separate 3.12% Kern County landfill gate fee increase for nonresidential customers. He said the estimated annual impact to the city is approximately $33,006.62 but that the city's adopted five‑year solid‑waste rate structure already anticipates these CPI adjustments and therefore the changes should not produce additional rate increases for customers. "Essentially, just the pass‑through fee that we collect on behalf of the county," Villanontes said.
Council discussed and then voted to approve the resolution on a unanimous roll call.
