McFarland council approves placing proposed city charter on November ballot

Paul Saldanha told council the charter advisory committee developed the proposed charter after public hearings and recommended submission to voters. "City charter gives the city more local control over how we govern ourselves while still following the state constitution and all federal and state laws," Saldanha said. The council approved Resolution 2026‑50 on a unanimous roll call vote.
Staff noted the charter process is intended to provide greater local flexibility while maintaining accountability and transparency. The resolution will place the proposed charter on the ballot for voters to decide during the November general election.
