Parents ask Stark County board for roughly $200,000 toward playground upgrades

Karen Lisota, president of the SCES Parents Club, presented a playground replacement proposal on Nov. 17, saying parts of the main playground are likely 30–50 years old and that single pieces can exceed $45,000. Lisota described safety-zone restrictions that prevent piecemeal replacement, noted poor drainage on the preschool playground, and said the club favors Miracle playground equipment’s community-build option to reduce installation costs.
The parents’ research estimated the combined cost to upgrade both the main and preschool playgrounds at roughly $230,000 and requested the board consider funding 85% (about $200,000). Lisota said the community-build option could save $70,000–$100,000 in installation costs compared with other vendors. Board members asked questions but did not take action during the Nov. 17 meeting.
Superintendent Elliott and principals had been engaged in preliminary planning discussions with the club; the board encouraged continued research into funding sources and possible phased approaches but made no commitment on Nov. 17.
