Board places FY2026 tentative budget on display; approves MOU removing student-growth from teacher evaluations

Superintendent Brett Elliott presented the district's FY2026 tentative budget and told the board he prepared a conservative, "worst case" scenario to account for rising health insurance costs, reduced transportation reimbursements, and potential cuts to federal Title funding (projected up to two-thirds next year). After discussion the board approved the tentative budget as presented and voted 5-0 to place it on public display for 30 days; a public hearing and final approval are scheduled for Sept. 22, 2025.
On a related personnel-policy item, the board approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the district and the teacher association to remove the student-growth portion of the teacher evaluation tool effective at the start of the 2025-26 school year. The change follows Senate Bill 28 and a unanimous recommendation from the PERA Joint Committee; the MOU passed by a 5-0 vote.
