SCES sets modest assessment targets: 3% gains aimed for 2025-26

Stark County Elementary School Principal Emily Mastin told the board the building set two measurable school-improvement goals for 2025-26. "From Spring 2025 to Spring 2026, the percentage of students at or above the 60th percentile will increase by 3% on STAR Early Literacy and Reading Assessments," she said, and she added a parallel math target: a 3% increase for KG-5 learners on STAR Math.
Mastin described summer professional development and curriculum work that underpins the goals: staff attended a two-day ROE workshop to analyze 2024-25 data; new teachers completed orientation and basic BIST training; three teachers attended Orton-Gillingham training; and the building will roll out a new writing framework and focus on intentional math instruction and consistent BIST language.
