Public Works reports pool opening, lift station pump failures and seasonal hires

Public Works Director Kyle Mattson told the council that the pool opened the day before the meeting and crews have been preparing facilities, including pouring concrete at walking-trail shelters and pressure-washing curbs for painting. Mattson said the department calibrated flow meters at the water treatment plant, and that Essers Plumbing & Heating has begun installation of a new City Center boiler.
Mattson reported equipment problems at the Schell Lift Station: both pumps are bad and the city is operating the station with a single pump while Electric Pump took one pump to Fargo for repair. He also said one of the zero-turn mowers needs a new engine and he has ordered a replacement; seasonal hires for the summer include Steve Ness, Colson Keskitalo, Royce Lorentz and Jeralee Patterson. Mattson recommended a step increase for employee Dylan Ness following a favorable performance review; the council approved the step increase unanimously.
