Skokie District 69 adopts FY25 budget, authorizes $1M interfund transfer to fund Madison project

The Board of Education of School District 69 (Skokie) approved the district’s 2024–25 budget and authorized a planned interfund transfer to support summer construction at Madison Elementary.
By motion of Dan Freeman, seconded by Lindley Wisnewski, the Board approved the consent agenda, which included adoption of the "School District Budget Form (ISBE 50‑36) July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025," and a resolution directing the transfer of $1,000,000 from the Educational Fund to the Operations and Maintenance Fund and on to the Capital Projects Fund. The payment of bills dated Aug. 31, 2024 ($906,257.40) and multiple personnel items were also included in the consent package. Roll call: Ayes — Steve Dembo, Mark Chao, Fernanda Perez, Dan Freeman, Kandice Cooley‑Jones, Lindley Wisnewski; Nays — none; Absent — Joanne Marsden. Motion carried.
Superintendent Dr. Margaret Clauson told the board that the planned transfer will help pay for the Madison summer construction project; additional funding for the work was identified through the School Project Maintenance Grant and ESSER funds. The administration also noted that the district’s evidence‑based funding for FY2023 increased by $614,427 due to Tier 1 status and that a Property Tax Relief Grant of $1,647,292 raised total evidence‑based funding to $6,780,916.
The budget adoption and transfer were approved as formal actions of the Board during the Sept. 17, 2024 regular meeting; the administration will post required compensation and budget reports to the district website as required by state statute.
