Wilson County students honored for SCOPE participation; student board member spotlights clubs and ACT gains

Bonnie Holman, the district's career and technical education supervisor, introduced and recognized Wilson County students who attended the Tennessee School Boards Association Student Congress on Policies and Education (SCOPE). Holman named delegates from multiple high schools and asked students Sam Wilson and Sawyer Turner to the front for recognition.
"We had 75% of the speaking roles and leadership roles in this from the senior class," Holman said, praising student leadership at the statewide conference. Student board member William Goodall told trustees the conference gave students a chance to debate education policy and learn how school boards operate.
Goodall described Wilson Central's extracurricular landscape as broad and active, noting "we have a lot of clubs at Central, about 50" and offering participation figures for several organizations. He highlighted Beta (about 250 members at Wilson Central), FFA (roughly 300 students, numerous competitions) and student-led efforts such as the ACT Ambassador program, which staff and students said contributed to an increase in the class of 2025 composite ACT from 20.7 to 21.7.
Trustees asked follow-up questions about club sponsorship and student involvement. The recognition segment concluded with trustees thanking the students and staff sponsors for their work.
