The Wyoming City Council authorized the city manager and clerk to execute an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for reconstruction of 28th Street between Division and Kalamazoo.
Staff described the project as "about a $26,000,000 project" that includes repaving, curb and gutter and sidewalk work and replacement of a storm-sewer pump station to address flooding near the railroad trestle. "Of this $26,000,000 project, MDOT is estimating that our share is about just over $48,000," staff said. Council members noted the city's portion is small relative to the total project but questioned traffic impacts and timing; staff said much of the work will occur next construction season and the pump-station work would start this fall.
Council voted to approve the agreement. Staff said MDOT will aim to maintain at least one lane of traffic in each direction during construction and that the work could be disruptive for the construction season.
