Resident urges commission to delay Pike Road fire‑authority amendments amid litigation

A resident who identified himself as Greg Thompson urged the Montgomery County Commission to delay action on proposed amendments to the Pike Road Volunteer Fire Protection Authority certificate of incorporation, saying the changes were tied to ongoing litigation and risk converting authority assets to benefit residents of the town.
Thompson said the town passed an ordinance designating the Pike Road department as the town's sole provider and that a 2024 service agreement for 30 years had been executed; he said those steps were the subject of litigation. "The town of Pike Road passed an ordinance ... to be the sole provider of services to the town of Pike Road," Thompson said, and he described litigation alleging annexations and contested service agreements.
Commissioners acknowledged there is litigation. One commissioner said they did not want the commission drawn into the lawsuit and recommended waiting until the legal matters are resolved. The commission agreed to invite the Pike Road Fire Authority board and the authority's president, Jim Miller, to the next meeting for explanation and to postpone formal action until commissioners receive further information.
The commission did not take a final vote on the amendment at the session and asked staff to place the Pike Road board on a future agenda to provide additional information.
