Town to relocate historic buildings and raise structures for proposed riverfront amphitheater

Don Thomas outlined plans to move several historic buildings and elevate them out of the flood plain to make way for a riverfront amphitheater. He said consultants are preparing construction drawings, the first building to move will be the Davis Corwin Building (moved about 10 feet east), and accessory buildings will be lifted to an elevation of approximately 13.5 feet.
Thomas described procurement steps (grant‑funded work will follow New York State bidding requirements), a plan to obtain bids and award based on low qualified bidders, and the availability of grant money to assist with potential repairs if damage occurs during the move. He said East End Arts participated in study work defining relocation outlines and that the cleared area will be used for an accessible bowl‑style amphitheater and public programming. "All of those buildings have to come up to the front of the property and the campus, be lifted up to 13.5 feet, elevation to get them out of the flood plain," Thomas said.
The board did not take a procurement vote during the work session; staff described the next steps as producing bid packages, soliciting bidders and scheduling relocations in coordination with grant timelines.
