Commission hears KeyTrak renewal and plan for jail food purchasing through Summit Food Services

County administrators asked the commission to approve a maintenance renewal for the KeyTrak key-control system used by the jail and reported on a proposed food purchasing agreement the sheriff would execute with Summit Food Services.
"They're gonna charge us 20% on top of the cost of the food to cover the menus, the dietitian, and the ordering process," county staff said of the Summit proposal and explained the 20% surcharge covers dietitian services, menus and the ordering software that would help the jail manage inventory and dietary requirements.
The KeyTrak renewal runs $3,900.80 per year, staff said, and requires a budget amendment. Officials suggested moving funds that had been set aside for a contract dietitian into the jail food account to cover the 20% surcharge if the commission approves the sheriff's contract.
The staff report recommended the commission place both items on the Tuesday agenda for formal action after county attorney review.
