Lamar CISD selects teal wolves as mascot and colors for Secondary Complex 8 in 6–1 vote

Staff described two surveys — a districtwide survey and a second, targeted survey for potentially impacted families — and summarized responses on mascot and color preferences.
The presenter said the second survey returned more than 950 responses and that teal led the color choices at 56%, with tigers at 36%, wolves at 34% and wildcats at 30%. “For survey 2... teal came out on top at 56%,” the presenter summarized. Trustees discussed concerns about duplicating neighboring schools’ mascots and emphasized designing a distinct identity for the new complex. Trustee Welch moved the motion: “I’m gonna make a motion that we that we assign to Secondary Complex Number 8... the colors of teal, white, and silver, with the wolves as the mascot.”
After discussion, the board approved the motion 6–1. Trustees noted the committee considered a range of animals (tigers, wildcats, wolves, bobcats, broncos) and that designers had created mockups showing how colors and mascots would appear across band, cheer and football uniforms. The district will proceed with vendor artwork and implementation planning for the complex.
