The board approved appointing Riley Walker to a probationary position in the world-language tenure area, with the probationary period commencing 09/01/2026 and tentatively ending 08/31/2030, contingent on statutory requirements and performance evaluations.
The motion included the standard conditions for tenure under Education Law section 3012—annual composite ratings of effective or highly effective in multiple years are required for tenure eligibility. The superintendent and board members explained that French certification was chosen because certified German candidates did not advance to finalist status in the hiring process. As the superintendent said, "Nobody with German certification or interest in German certification made it to me as a finalist," and board members described the district's effort to vet candidates and avoid a short-term Band-Aid solution.
Board members acknowledged the difficulty this creates for students enrolled in German courses; the administration said they would provide one German section to enable students who need a third year to complete that sequence.
