Board approves purchase of 20 school buses to address long lead times

Doctor Barton told the board the district moved up its timeline to order buses because manufacturers are quoting 11–12 month lead times. He said the district requested purchase of 20 buses (15 regular, five for special education) that should arrive in August for the 2025–26 school year.
"We have requested the purchase of, 20 school buses that should hopefully arrive in August to be utilized for the 20 five‑twenty 6 school year," Barton said, and noted the district already has 12 buses on order (seven regular and five special‑education) that were ordered last December and are expected in January. A motion to purchase the 20 buses passed 7–0.
Barton said the additional buses are intended to replace aging fleet vehicles and to provide standby buses for extracurricular routes rather than relying solely on route buses. Trustees recorded no dissent and did not amend the purchase at the workshop meeting.
