The Academy ISD Board of Trustees convened a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, in the Sherry Moore Boardroom in Little River and voted to enter closed session to consider alleged inappropriate conduct by a former employee.
Trustee Alex Bass moved that the board go into closed session at 5:31 p.m.; Trustee Jennifer Burnett seconded and the motion passed unanimously, 7-0. The meeting notice lists the closed-session topics as: consideration of alleged inappropriate conduct of a former employee under Texas Government Code §551.074 and consultation with the school attorney regarding the investigation under Texas Government Code §§551.071 and 551.129. Board President Calvin Eshbaugh had opened the session at 5:30 p.m. and confirmed a seven-member quorum.
The board returned to open session at 7:04 p.m. The trustees considered whether to take action on matters arising from closed session, including items referenced under Texas Government Code §§551.071, 551.072 and 551.074, and the board recorded that no action was taken. "Motion to move to closed session by Mr. Bass, seconded by Ms. Burnett, Passed," the meeting record states.
Shortly after reconvening, Trustee Alex Bass moved to adjourn; Trustee Jennifer Burnett seconded, and the motion passed unanimously, 7-0. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
No members of the public signed up to provide public comment during the special meeting. School officials in attendance included Darla Nolen and Calvin Itz. The board did not disclose the content of closed-session deliberations in the public record.
