At the Aug. 18 meeting the Abernathy ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to opt the district out of allowing homeschool students to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities through the district.
"I move to opt out of homeschool participation in UIL activities for Abernathy ISD," Trustee Matt Miller said when making the motion; Trustee Matt Riley seconded. The board recorded a 7'0to'00 vote to adopt the opt-out.
The motion means homeschooled students will not participate under Abernathy ISD's membership for UIL competitions or activities for the period addressed. The minutes do not record additional conditions, exceptions, or a discussion of appeals processes at this meeting.
