Board approves Watertown middle school conceptual plan and Lakeview Elementary improvements

Civil engineer Joe Haddock presented a conceptual plan for a proposed Watertown middle school that "does propose 2 connections out to Highway 70," explaining those connections would include turn lanes to improve traffic flow and internal connections intended to share parking with the nearby high school. Board members asked about sewer and water coordination; Haddock said staff had met with the city and scheduled additional water coordination meetings later in the week.
Separately, the board approved conceptual site plan improvements for Lakeview Elementary that include a new driveway configuration and a turn lane on Saundersville Road to address traffic stacking. The plan would result in a net increase of several parking spaces after accounting for a rear kitchen expansion. Both items passed by unanimous votes as the board moved them forward for subsequent phasing and detailed design reviews.
Board members emphasized that phasing and final construction plans will return to the board for approvals that include utility coordination, drainage/detention provisions and tree preservation where feasible.
