Mr. Luttrell opened the work session by summarizing compensation changes in the proposed 2025–26 budget, saying the plan "this budget focuses on employees." The proposal calls for certified staff to receive a minimum 3.5% increase (plus step increases where applicable), classified staff to receive a 2% increase in addition to step, beginning teacher pay set at $48,419 and hourly starting pay rising to $14.33 per hour.
Board finance staff presented the related salary schedule and said the district is aiming to move starting certified teacher pay toward the legally required $50,000 level by 2026–27; the presentation listed a starting certified salary of $48,418 for the coming year. The finance director also noted the budget includes step or adjusted salary treatments for employees at top pay grades and supplements intended to retain certain positions such as psychologists and speech‑language pathologists.
Administrators stressed the choices were made to keep the budget balanced amid constrained revenue: recurring equipment purchases were reduced by $1,000,000 and some capital items are proposed to be paid from restricted fund balance. The board was asked to provide direction before the scheduled vote later in the week.
